Manchester City delivered a dominant derby performance at the Etihad, sweeping aside Manchester United 3–0 to move four points clear at the top of the Women’s Super League.
Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp capped a blistering first-half display that saw City score three times in 21 minutes against a United defence that had conceded only six league goals all season. The win reinforces City’s title credentials and marks another milestone victory after their earlier triumph over Arsenal.
United, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back WSL defeats for the first time since 2024. Marc Skinner’s squad, stretched thin by their Champions League commitments, looked fatigued after their historic win over PSG midweek.
“We gave City those goals,” Skinner admitted. “It wasn’t like they dominated us. We need to recruit in January to support this team.”
City, with fewer scheduling pressures, controlled the match from the outset. Hemp, making her first start since returning from injury, tormented United on the flanks, while Vivianne Miedema and Yui Hasegawa were central to City’s fluid attack.
United created little in response, failing to register a shot on target. Substitute Melvine Malard and former City forward Jess Park could not shift the momentum, with Park striking the post late on.
City could have added a fourth through Shaw, but her missed chance didn’t affect the outcome. With impressive early-season wins against two top rivals, Andrée Jeglertz’s side are firmly positioned as title favourites after nine matches.
