Russian forces launched a massive attack on Kyiv early Friday, killing four people and wounding 27, Mayor Klitschko said. Rescue crews struggled to recover two bodies trapped under rubble. Fires broke out in multiple residential areas as emergency teams responded. Officials confirmed nine hospitalizations, including a pregnant woman. Among the victims were two children, aged seven and ten.
Zelenskyy Denounces Calculated Assault on Civilians
President Zelenskyy condemned the attack as a “deliberately calculated strike” against civilians and infrastructure. He reported that Russian forces fired 430 drones and 18 missiles, including ballistic and aeroballistic types. The strikes damaged at least 11 multi-storey residential buildings. Falling debris ignited fires near a medical facility and in a nonresidential building in Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts. Authorities urged residents to remain in shelters and warned of possible power and water outages.
Russia Advances in South Despite Heavy Resistance
Russian attacks also hit critical infrastructure and homes across other Ukrainian regions, injuring at least six people. Ukrainian forces withdrew from several Zaporizhzhia villages amid intense fighting. Over the past month, Russia claimed nine settlements in Donetsk, eight in Zaporizhzhia, seven in Dnipropetrovsk, and five in Kharkiv. Analysts said Russia’s siege of Pokrovsk has slowed because commanders spread resources too thinly. Ukraine’s defense has limited Russian gains, inflicting high casualties and equipment losses while maintaining incremental battlefield resistance.
