Amorim slams ‘too comfortable’ Manchester United after dramatic draw at Spurs

Rúben Amorim criticised his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they threw away a lead in a 3–3 draw against Tottenham.

United looked in control for much of the game after Bryan Mbeumo’s early strike, but Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned things around for Spurs before Matthijs de Ligt’s 96th-minute header rescued a point.

“We have a lot of problems — we’re just at the beginning,” Amorim said. “The results make it look like we’re improving, but we were far too comfortable. The game was there to take, the three points were there, but we stopped being aggressive and allowed the atmosphere to change. One moment can change everything — that’s what happened today.”

The manager also expressed concern over Benjamin Šeško, who came off injured in the second half: “We think he has a problem, but let’s see.”

Spurs boss Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after some fans booed when he replaced Xavi Simons with Tel, who later scored the equaliser. “Sometimes you’re lucky,” he said. “But every decision I make is to try to win the game — and Tel did just that.”

Despite Tottenham’s continued wait for a home league win since August, Frank insisted his side are progressing: “The way we stayed in it and almost won — I’m very happy with that. On another day, we take all three points.”
